I am not writing for a specific audience. I don’t use AI to write. This would be contradictory. I am writing because it’s fun. It’s a good way to sort things mentally. So here it is: my very first personal note.
My summer break is intentionally long. I left my position for two reasons: The first reason is about my past position. It had no level of ownership and too many bullshit tasks. Sounds horrible but it’s the truth. Working for government projects involves people who do not value design and engineering as they should. They only learned to manage processes and people. They mostly manage processes they have written themselves into. Sad but true: some people could leave tomorrow and the project would keep running (or even better) from the day they’re leaving.
The other reason is we have bought a house. First we have to renovate. Like a lot. It’s fun, it is time consuming, it is expensive. But it is ours. A small house with a garden. My family and I are so much looking forward. While renovating and eventually moving I am looking for interesting gigs and jobs. Not seriously enough to really have chats with people yet, but here and there are some super interesting positions, I apply to.
This break also enables me to learn more than ever. It is a great time to be a designer. My curiosity is through the roof. I see, read, watch so much stuff and build things on the side. Most are experiments but everything makes sense in my head. I am learning and prototyping every day. It’s a beautiful time.
Let’s see what the future holds. For my wife, kids, me, for us.
